Dr. Boswell’s career began as a behavioral therapist, using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and learning theory to help individuals and families affected by developmental disabilities throughout Ventura County. Dr. Boswell’s training spans the spectrum of age. She trained within UCLA’s Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Tic Disorders department ultimately working her clinical hours within the pediatric OCD Intensive Outpatient Program. She spent a year honing her skills as a Dialectical Behavioral Therapist (DBT) for adults and adolescents under Dr. Jamie Bedics at California Lutheran University (CLU). California Lutheran University’s DBT program was developed by Dr. Jamie Bedics, in collaboration with Dr. Marsha Linehan, the creator of DBT, and funded by a grant for dissemination of DBT as an evidence-based practice, providing world-class DBT training.   Dr. Boswell completed an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited internship with Black Hills Veteran Affairs in South Dakota where she trained in specialty rotations of neuropsychological assessment, trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD treatment, and Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI). Since earning her doctorate at California Lutheran University, Dr. Boswell has worked in integrated care with Community Memorial Hospital, rounding out her clinical experiences. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Boswell is an adjunct professor at California Lutheran University, teaching for their Doctorate in Clinical Psychology program.

Through all of Dr. Boswell’s clinical experiences, she found particular interest in working with children and adolescents using a cognitive and behavioral framework for treating a variety of problems facing individuals and families. Dr. Boswell’s services include individual therapy for children and adolescents, parent training, and community outreach. Dr. Boswell uses learning theory, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and DBT in conjunction with cultural and contextual factors to provide a tailored approach to treatment that balances the individual’s (or family’s) clinical and personal needs. Dr. Boswell’s strengths lie in building strong, caring, compassionate, collaborative therapeutic relationships, which serve as the basis of treatment.

Dr. Boswell’s research involved studying mindfulness-based interventions, sports anxiety, and sports performance. She spent six years as a professional club soccer coach before pursuing doctoral training to gain the education and experience necessary to propel her athletes toward success and peak performance. Her experience as an athlete, coach, and psychologist allows her an inside track on sports performance. She has had the pleasure of working with athletes of all ages and competitive levels, ranging from youth athletes to professional athletes. She finds particular satisfaction in helping athletes make the adjustment from high school to college sports, flourishing on and off the field. Sports have always been an integral part of life for Dr. Boswell. She has participated in many sports including figure skating, softball, basketball, tumbling, dance, track, volleyball, and soccer. In her adult life, she has transitioned from soccer to strength and conditioning training, which includes Crossfit and Olympic weightlifting. She loves hiking, swimming, martial arts, soccer, and most other sports. She continues to enjoy competition and strives for excellence in everything she does. This drive is what pushes her to help her athletes reach their goals, armed with Next Level techniques and tools.
